Paolo Rinaldi su American Passage conquista all'ultima prova il primo Zonale di Anzio superando di quattro punti Pelle Nera di Gianni Riccobono che comandava la classifica fino a sabato. 17 nodi da libeccio/ponente con onde di due metri e mezzo hanno dato vita ad una giornata ricca di emozioni, di adrenalina e di sole. Un ottimo allenamento in vista dell'imminente inizio del Campionato Nazionale in programma da mercoledì ad Anzio.
Organizzato dalla Lega Navale sezione di Anzio, la ripresa dopo tanti anni dello zonale è stato decisamente un successo.
L'appuntamento è per il 2014.
Quante volte abbiamo sentito velisti dichiarare che il J24 sia oramai una barca della vecchia generazione, destinato a lasciare il posto ai nuovi mnotipi. Più veloci, moderni e performanti. In effetti il Melges ha rubato la scena per alcuni anni attirando a bordo i campioni che fino a qualche anno fa, confrontandosi sul J24, raggiungevano la notorietà sufficiente a fare il grande salto. Magari in Coppa america come De Angelis, Vascotto, Bressani, etc.
L'idea di confrontarsi con barche sempre più tecnologiche e, soprattutto, più veloci, sembrava garantire la capacità di rimanere agli apici della vela. Per un periodo forse è stato anche vero. Ma ora non è più così. La tecnologia, il carbonio, la velocità, da soli non fanno la vela. La Vela si fa in acqua confrontandosi con lo stesso mezzo e avendo al capacità di regolarlo meglio degli altri e di condurlo meglio degli altri. E per ottenere questo non conta la velocità assoluta, ma quella relativa. Conta la capacità di affinare ogni singolo dettaglio per riuscire ad avvicinarsi al limite, imposto dalle regole di classe, per provare a vincere. Nessuna barca ha mai permesso così tanto margine di miglioramento come il J24. Per questo ancora oggi, dopo 35 anni di attività, questo incredibile monotipo fa scervellare tanti campioni, rilevando ancora oggi i segreti che sono rimasti nascosti dentro ogni manovra ed ogni regolazione e che, giorno dopo giorno, ognuno si trova ancora a scoprire. Senza però mai raggiungere l'ultima regolazione. Quella oltre la quale non si può migliorare. Quella che renderebbe noioso regatare. Quello che invece è successo a tanti prototipi che sono durati il tempo di un plenilunio.
Ecco perché il J24 conta oggi ancora centinaia di equipaggi che continuano a formarsi e a confrontarsi in tutto il mondo.
Ma non basta. Il J24 ha anche tantissime altre peculiarità che lo rendono unico. Non ultima quella che, a differenza dei più moderni progetti, ha una struttura costruttiva che non cede nel tempo. Come si dice in gergo, lo scafo non si siede. Rimane compatto e performante sempre. Una barca di vent'anni rimane competitiva come una barca appena uscita dal cantiere. Una differenza importantissima che, con con pochi soldi di investimento, rende l'usato assolutamente competitivo mantenendo il suo valore nel tempo.
Altro incredibile vantaggio, che induce ancora oggi tanti armatori ad acquistarne uno, è il costo del nuovo. Almeno il 40% in meno di un equivalente monotipo. Ma soprattutto il costo di manutenzione che è quasi dieci volte più basso. Con il vantaggio di poterlo poi rivendere ad altri velisti con budget minori ma ambizioni equivalenti.
Il J24 è anche un'ottima barca per imparare e per crescere giorno dopo giorno, fino a diventare dei campioni. La barca concede molti margini di errore per la sua grande navigabilità e tolleranza agli errori. Permette di scendere in acqua da zero a trenta nodi garantendo la sicurezza di rientrare in porto anche per improvvisi aumenti del vento e del mare. Caratteristica che gli scafi larghi e piatti di oggi non permettono e non assicurano.
Il J24 è una barca intramontabile che ci regala ogni volta tantissime emozioni e, non meno importante, la possibilità di poterle condividere con i velisti in ogni parte del mondo.

So what can you expect from the Monaco J/24 Europeans?
From the unique atmosphere of our “Port Hercules” harbour where you will find a mixture of traditional fishing boats mingling with the largest super yachts. Your will be mooring your J/24’s amongst some of the most exclusive super yachts in the world in a harbour where moorings are near impossible to obtain! No to mention the warm welcome of the Yacht Club de Monaco where you will immediately feel at home.
For this high profile event, the Yacht Club de Monaco has assembled a very strong race committee to ensure smooth, fair and professional race management. Heading the Race Committee will be John Coveney a key international race officer with excellent experience of the southern coast line of France and an unquestionable knowledge of its mistral, levante and tramontane!
Whilst talking of the bay of Monaco, this is your race area. Right outside the harbour, you will find open waters so the race area will be on your door step. No tide, little current, mainly just plain deep water! No sand banks or shallow parts to avoid or escape too! Just one large expanse of water in which the race committee will lay the course. Miss the windward mark and your next stop is Corsica!
In simple terms, the race area is a 2.5 nautical miles radius circle just outside the harbour. From dock to start line in less than 10 minutes!!
From the social events hosted by the Yacht Club de Monaco to those who will explore the Principality further afield by maybe dancing in the Rascasse with its live band, or visiting the local brewery, eating the Provencal delicacies from the Condamine market, gambling at the world famous Casino or visiting the internationally reputed Oceanographic Museum on the cliff edge, there are plenty of activities to do while not out on the water racing.
By the time you come to leave Monaco at the end of the regatta, you will be able to recount amongst other memories that you towed your J/24 down the start finish line of a formula one race track. How is that for your next piece of bar talk?
